ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line) and VDSL (Very high data rate DSL) technologies are high-speed internet data transmission. The speed of incoming data stream is higher than the outgoing in ADSL technology. Unlike pure asymmetric ADSL technology, VDSL technology works in both asymmetric and symmetric modes. With these technologies subscribers connect broadband internet over ordinary telephone wires. The availability of ADSL and VDSL is dependent on a number of factors, including the area in which you live, the quality of your existing phone line and the distance from your nearest telephone station. Average distance between PSTN and user in ADSL is 4 km; whereas in VDSL it is up to 1.3 km. However, placing the terminal equipment closer to the subscriber – in offices and apartment buildings, it is possible to shorten the distance.
